As I am a clergyperson, my conversations with clients are legally privileged. Additionally, I comply with HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act). A copy of my Notice of Privacy Practices is posted on my web site and in my waiting room. My computer systems are password protected and data on my network is encrypted. If you use a credit card to pay for your sessions, transactions will use Authorize.net, and will occur over an encrypted connection to a secure server. Similarly, any information about you stored in the Internet "cloud" as part of my electronic record system will be on protected servers owned by companies that promise privacy. I pay extra so that data transfers are over an encrypted connection when working with client notes.Even my smartphone is secured with a password system that will erase all data if the password is entered incorrectly, and it can be remotely wiped if it is ever lost or stolen.
