The business model I use in my practice is called an "Ideal Micropractice" and is a concept created by a group of physicians associated with Dartmouth Clinical Systems.
A Micropractice is a small professional practice that is usually solo. It uses technology instead of staff to produce a more relaxed pace that allows time to personalize services. The goal is to minimize overhead so the practitioner keeps more of what he or she earns. This allows the practitioner to earn a decent living while keeping fees reasonable; and allows the practitioner to keep his or her life in balance.
In addition to the high-tech, low-overhead style, Micropractices favor an administrative style that eliminates backlog, and they try to make it easy for clients to schedule and adjust appointments.
